1.        SCOPE:

This Work Method Statement for Lighting Protection System Procedure covers the new installed building and Substations in Package 1 Haradh Hawiyah Field Gas Compression Project.

2.        PURPOSE:

The purpose of this procedure is to provide for the detailed requirements that shall be followed during Lightning Protection System Installation.

5. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

5.1.        Ensure that the JSA job safety analysis is approved prior to start the activity work related to Lightning Protection System high level installation activities.

5.2.        Conduct job safety talk before starting the work

5.3.        Necessary safe work permit shall be obtained. All person involved in these activities shall wear complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with safe work requirements.

5.4.        Check adequacy and availability of all tools and equipment for high level installation activities.

5.5.        Barricades and Signboards shall be installed around the working area to restrict from other not involved in these activities.

6.        QA/QC REQUIREMENTS:

6.1.        Contractor’s E&I Inspector shall verify all Lighting protection component shall be UL listed or labeled in accordance with UL 96 for lighting protection service or equivalent service or equivalent certification approved by the Coordinator of Electrical Engineering Division, Consulting Service Department.

6.2.        Contractor’s E&I QC Inspector shall carefully check the work execution against all relevant drawings, applicable standards and specifications, Codes and Manufacturing Instruction Manual.

6.3.        The quality control program shall be as per (SAES) Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards.

6.4.        The detailed inspection stages and methods shall be as per the approved inspection and test plan.

6.5.        All installed Lighting Protection System shall be inspected for elevation and routine as per approved IFC drawings.

6.6.        Inspection and test plan must be submitted ahead of time for SAPMT, SAPID and Contractor’s

7.        METHOD OF PREPARATION:

7.1.        Experience Electrical Personnel to perform Lightning Protection System Installation.

7.2.        Familiar of Exothermic or CADWELD Manufacturer Manual and Instructions.

7.3.        Verified approved correct accessories material prior to use.

7.4.        Assure the locations of the down conductors with the same locations of the earth risers conductor is correct as per approved IFC drawings.

7.5.        Cable protected adequately. All adjacent sharp edges to removed

7.6.        Cable connection point is appropriate.

7.7.        All grounding and lighting installation shall be done in accordance with NFPA 780 UL 96A, IEE-998 or IEC 62305-1,2,3,4, SAUDI ARAMCO ENGINEERING STANDARDS SAES-P-104, SAES-P-111

7.8.        The air terminal shall be UL Listed or Labeled in accordance with UL 96 for lightning protection service or have approved equivalent certification. SAES-P-111 Sec. 13.1

7.9.        An air terminal may be of one-piece construction or may have several separate parts including: point (tip portion), elevation conductor, and base support. UL 96 Sec. 6.1 SAES-P-111 Sec. 13.1

7.10.      Each air terminal shall be provided with integral base support or with not less than five full threads for attachment to the base support. UL 96 Sec. 6.4 SAES-P-111 Sec. 13.1

7.11.      The air terminal shall be made of materials that are resistant to corrosion or protected against corrosion. NFPA 780 Sec. 4.2 SAES-P-104Sec. 4.2

7.12.      Each down conductor shall terminate at dedicated lightning disconnecting / test link and  grid lighting protection system located as shown in approved IFC drawings.

7.13.      Down conductors shall be as widely separated as practicable.

7.14.      A slate fastener shall comply with the dimensional and material requirements.

7.15.      Down conductors entering corrosive Soil shall be protected by against corrosion by a protective covering PVC pipe beginning at a point 0.9 m (3 ft) 1 m above grade level at lightning disconnecting / test link and extending for their entire length up to 2 m below grade. NFPA 780 Section 4.9.12 SAES-P-111 Sec. 13.1 as shown in approved IFC drawings.

7.16.      The down conductor shall be protected for a minimum distance of 1.8 m (6 ft) 2 m above grade level. NFPA 780 Section 4.9.11.2 SAES-P-111 Sec. 13.1 as shown in approved IFC drawings.
